Carol Mancini of Silicone Scene (San Diego) received
an award for Consumer Advocate of the Year from the Consumers
Attorneys of California. We congratulate her on her accomplishments
and are delighted that her efforts were recognized.
The Boise Conference was wonderful! It was a great
mixture of allopathic and alternative medicine and I learned a
great deal. I think it was the best conference (for alternative
medical information) that I have ever attended. I am so excited
about some of the information that was presented. Over 100
women attended and learned wonderful new things about healing.
Some of the alternative medicine material that was presented
is reflected in this month's column. Audio tapes of all the speakers
are available and the order blank is at the back of this newsletter.
The attorney who spoke was Charles Zimmerman (from original
MDL committee). Tapes: Drs. Campbell, Huang, Ostermeyer, &
Puszkin as well as the alternative health tapes by Floyd Westin
(who ran the biggest preventative health clinic in this country

How much longer can we, who provide information
and support, survive without help from outside. Our donations
have dwindled to almost nothing this year! If the need for this
type of service is so low, many of our groups will vanish over
the next year. We simply cannot survive without some financial
support. I will try to continue throughout 1997, but, I feel
that it will be my last year. I cannot continue to go into the
hole any longer. I paid the November bills from my own pocket.
Financially I simply cannot afford it. I have heard this same
story from many other group leaders!!
I have had an unusual number of calls recently (50
just this month) from women who are just now finding out about
problems with silicone disease. We continue to send information
packets around the world (no charge) and continue to make referrals
to groups in the area closest to women who contact us. In order
to do this, we need your help. Please send your donations

needed help and how much that information meant??!! It

Bankruptcy. I received mine on Nov. 30th.

A warning: Do not return
any long distance message (emergency or otherwise) with an 809
area code. It is a scam and you will receive a phone bill for
$100 or so for the amount of time they keep you on the phone.
It originates in the Caribbean and there is nothing the phone
companies can do (at this time) to stop this scam, so don't get
caught. There is also a pager scam (different area code) with
a $25 minimum charge to respond, so be careful.
MEDICAL INFORMATION:
TIA's or TRANSIENT ISCHEMIC ATTACKS:
These are described in the Merck Manual as focal neurological
abnormalities of sudden onset and brief duration (usually minutes,
never more than a few hours) that reflect dysfunction in the distribution
of either the internal carotid-middle cerebral (brain) or the
vertebral-basilar arterial system (affects the brain). TIA's
are often recurrent and predict and occur before a stroke. Plaques
or atherosclerotic ulcers (hardening) of the carotid or vertebral
arteries in the neck are often the cause. Most often a disease
of the middle aged or elderly, it can occur in children with cardiovascular
disease.
Symptoms: Confusion (often extreme), vertigo, eye difficulties including partial blindness (sometimes only one side), double vision, unilateral or bilateral weakness or numbness and tingling, inability to speak (aphasia), leg buckling (often causing a fall), slurred speech, etc. Attacks can occur several daily to only occasionally over a period of years and can be the same or vary in symptoms, depending on the location of the blood vessel blockage. Strokes are not inevitable, but commonly occur after these symptoms. Non-invasive ultrasonography can determine the presence of stenosis (constriction or narrowing of blood vessels).
Treatment may be determined by the underlying cause
of the disease such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity,
smoking, or high levels of blood fats. Anti-platelet agents,
anticoagulants & sometimes vascular surgery are utilized to
treat this condition. Cleaning out the plaques in the arteries
or veins is a necessity. See the books or tapes by Robert Barefoot
for alternative methods to cleanse the body, increase alkalinity
and reduce plaques in the blood vessels that cause high blood
pressure and heart disease.
The ICD-9 Code (for insurance forms) for Toxic Effects
of Silicone is 989.83. This shows that there has been some
acceptance of silicone disease in the medical field.
A couple from Holland found foreign crystals, including
what their doctor felt was silicone, in a finger prick blood specimen
of their 11 year old daughter.
LABS:
If you have bone pain and have not have the
blood test for MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy), you might wish to
seriously consider having it done. Immunosciences Lab, $75.00.
(800) 950-4686. An M.D. must order the test. Results sent to
that M.D. You can order the kit, but you must have already made
a doctor's appointment to have the test taken. Have the M.D.
fill out the lab slip.
ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE:
You would truly be surprised at the number
of people with really closed minds that will not even look at
alternative medicine as an approach to healing. Even though many
of us have found that it is the best way (for some, the only way)
to ever detox our bodies and reclaim our health, some women (and
men) just walk away and refuse to even hear about many products
and therapies that could help them tremendously. Many are so
ingrained into the allopathic medical system that we believe that
it is all there is and we won't look further.
Alternative medicine has existed from the beginning
of time; allopathic medicine has existed for about 200 years.
Solutions that were utilized hundreds and thousands of years
ago are finding their way into allopathic medicine today. By
the year 2000 it is estimated that 40% of all our health and medical
dollars will be spend on alternative medicine. This is true because
many of us, including myself, have not found many of the answers
to our own personal health problems in traditional allopathic
medicine.
If you are running from doctor to doctor seeking answers to your health problems or if you have found only minor solutions with your current doctor(s), perhaps you should look at alternative medical solutions. If you have always looked at Naturopathic or Holistic Doctors,, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists and other Alternative Health Practitioners with a jaundiced eye, maybe another look is in order. I owe my life to these alternative medical practitioners. Many other women do also. You have nothing to gain but your health.
THE ACID-ALKALINE BALANCE:
When our bodies are alkaline, fungus cannot survive, many diseases
are rendered ineffective, many tumors cannot grow and we have
much better health. Most of us are very acid. This is due to
our diets. Colas are highly acidic, black coffee is alkaline,
but coffee with cream or sugar is acidic. All sugars are acidic.
Many foods with high carbohydrates are acidic. Antibiotics can
make our systems acidic. Our diets are the cause of many diseases;
changing our diets can improve our health. Being alkaline can
reduce blood pressure because it can help reduce the plaques in
blood vessels. Read about the acid-alkaline balance in Robert
Barefoot's book, Death by Diet and find out how to balance
your body and improve your overall health.
Blue-Green Algae: We need to be aware that this
type of product could increase our body's response to fungi, according
to Robert Barefoot (Boise Conference). I have noticed that my
fungal problems became worse when I used any type of blue-green
algae (I felt ill and my ears, vaginal and rectal areas itched
a lot more). Since most immune-damaged persons can have fungal
problems, we may wish to avoid these products.
To lose weight, try Key To Sun (Chitosan), an all-natural
fiber product that absorbs fats and prevents them from being digested
(about $33 including tax and shipping for about one month's supply).
At a recent meeting I heard one woman state that she had lost
30 pounds in four months (without dieting) using this product.

PHOSPHORUS: Where does
it come from in our food and what does it do to our body? It
is in virtually all sodas and it destroys our body's ability to
absorb our nutrients. We must avoid all drinks that list phosphorus,
phosphoric acid, sodium phosphates, or phosphates (at least avoid
them within 2 hours of any food or food supplements). Some products
that contain phosphates include many brands of ham (sodium phosphates),
many pre-packaged products and many frozen meals. When we cannot
absorb nutrients, we become diseased. Think about all the children
and young adults today running around drinking sodas and all the
people consuming foods containing phosphates (and other chemicals)
and how rich that will make all the doctors 20-30-40 years from
now. Kind of scary, isn't it??!!
CORAL CALCIUM: What is
it and why do we need it? This product comes from unique coral
reefs around Okinawa & Tokunoshima (Japan). It helps benefit
and change the body's water content (70% of our body is water,
our blood is 90% water), helps to remove toxins, reduces acidity
(raises alkaline content) & improves the autoimmune system.
Four million Japanese use it daily. According to Michael Abdou,
M.D., it can help people with indigestion, gastroenteritis, rheumatoid
arthritis, hyperacidity, ulcerative colitis, hiatal hernia, cataracts
& indigestion. Users report relief from osteoporosis. It
helps unclog arteries & therefore can help reduce high blood
pressure and help prevent clogged arteries leading to heart disease.
All of us probably have calcium deficiencies (gall stones, kidney
stones, calcium deposits in the joints, etc. are some signs of
calcium deficiency, but there are many others). 70% of the population
is reportedly calcium deficient. Most calcium products, unlike
this one, are not easily absorbed by our bodies.
Coral calcium (from Health Technologies Network)
is in a form that you put in your drinking water and then forget
it. You also cook with it. There is no taste. If you wish to
order it, call me for the phone number of Health Technologies
Network. You must become a distributor to get Coral Calcium but
the distributorship is free. It costs about $60 per month for
two people (or maybe three) for drinking water (about $30 for
one person). I have started to take this and I use it to cook
everything. My pH balance is around 6.0 and it needs to be around
7.2 to 7.5 for good health and to ward off fungal infections.
Another wonderful product that comes from HTN is
Assimilator. This product contains all the colloidal minerals
plus coral calcium in ionic form (most easily absorbed by our
bodies). These minerals are 1000 times smaller and more bioavailable
(absorbable) that any chelated or colloidal mineral product on
the market. Contact me for information on how to obtain coral
calcium and Assimilator. I think I will take these forever!!
The sad truth about Vitamin D.
According to Robert Barefoot and other scientists, we don't
get enough of Vitamin D in our vitamin supplements. The RDA our
government recommends is guaranteed to keep us Vitamin D deficient
unless we spend a lot of time in the sun or eat a lot of Vitamin
D laden foods (I'll bet the drug companies had a hand in this
one). Our stomach & intestines have positive receptors &
our vitamins, minerals and nutrients in foods have positive receptors.
These two repel each others. Vitamin D has negative receptors
and pulls the other nutrients into our systems. Contrary to
what we have been told, it would take tremendous amounts of Vitamin
D (also Vitamin A) to make us toxic. When you spend an hour in
the sun in a bikini, you absorb 20,000 to 30,000 units of Vitamin
D. Cantaloupe has a tremendous amount of Vitamin A, yet you don't
become ill from it. We have been sold a bill of goods!!
What happened that our government decided to restrict
Vitamin D? In the 20's and 30's, many people took 20,000 to 30,000
units of Vitamin D a day. It was the most important ingredient
in cod liver oil (now most Vitamin D has been removed from this
product). Then 7 silly students decided to take massive doses
of it, and, wonder of wonders, they became toxic. It could have
been the Vitamin D or it could have been some impurity in the
capsules (shades of L-tryptophan??). The government banned it
for a period of time and then established a 400 I.U. level as
'safe' for us to take. Research from the 20's and 30's set the
safe levels at a much higher amount, but that was ignored. Similar
experiences resulted in an advisory to limit Vitamin A. Wal-Mart
has Vitamin A & D capsules. I am taking 2400 units a day.
Robert Barefoot (Boise conference) gave us a tremendous
amount of information. on nutrition, calcium, Vitamin D and the
acid/alkaline balance of the body. The audio tapes of this conference
are listed at the back of this newsletter. I don't have them,

Director of the Institute for Biophysics in Horb, Germany, "
Magnetic field therapy is a method that penetrates the whole human
body and can treat every organ without chemical side effects."
Magnetic field therapy has been used effectively in the treatment
of: Cancer, Rheumatoid disease, headaches, migraines, infections,
inflammations, insomnia, sleep disorders, circulatory problems,
fractures, pain and environmental stress. Dr. Ludwig adds that
magnetic changes in the environment can affect the electromagnetic
balance of the human organism and contribute to disease. Dr.
Kyoichi Nakagawa, Director of the Isuzu Hospital in Tokyo, Japan,

their exposure to the natural geomagnetic fields of the earth
and may also interfere with health. He calls this condition magnetic
field deficiency syndrome which can cause headaches, dizziness,
muscle stiffness, chest pain, insomnia, constipation and general

to counter the effects caused by the electromagnetic pollution
in the environment. " The healing potential of magnets is
possible because the body's nervous system is governed, in part,
by varying patterns of ionic currents and electromagnetic fields,"
reports Dr. John Zimmerman, scientist and electromagnetical
field researcher. He concludes that the frequency at which a
magnetic field is pulsed determines whether or not it is harmful.
The voltage of the electrical current used in homes in the U.S.
is sixty cycles per second. Normal frequencies in the human brain
during waking hours range from 8 to 20 cycles per second. The
higher frequencies present in artificial electrical currents may
disturb the brain's natural resonant frequencies and, in time,
lead to cellular fatigue. " The electromagnetic environment
created by twentieth century technology may be exerting subtle,
yet very important effects upon biology," states Dr. Zimmerman.
" This may include alterations in gene expression, immune
function, viral pathogenesis, and future genetic tendencies."
Negative effects of positively charged electromagnetic fields
can be counteracted by utilizing the proper magnetic therapies.
For many, sleeping on a magnetic bed can help the body to restore
much it's natural functioning.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
Q. Can I join the Dow Corning Bankruptcy?
I live in the England. A. Absolutely! You must file the claim
form (to be received by) February 14, 1997 (this applies to all
foreign claimants). Since foreign mail takes time, please send
it by some form of express mail or give it at least 2 weeks to
arrive (certified mail is best).
PERSONAL COMMUNICATION:
I heard from another woman who had been victimized
by her plastic surgeon. (I hear from women like this almost every
day). She had her implants removed (he had also put them in 14
years earlier) and he did not give them back to her, even though
she had requested them. His receptionist them showed her intact
saline implants and told her that they were the ones they had
removed (he had told her three years earlier that she had silicone
implants). On her blue form, he put down that she had Cox-Uphoff
Saline implants. She is reasonably sure he lied. He stated that
he no longer had the 14 year old records of her implantation.
This happened in Illinois.
My warning would be:
NEVER RETURN TO THE PLASTIC SURGEON WHO PUT
YOUR IMPLANTS IN (even if they will remove them free) UNLESS SHE/HE
OPENLY ACKNOWLEDGES IMPLANTS ARE CAUSING PROBLEMS.
Even then, be sure one not groggy from anesthesia is there to
take possession of implants. Don't let them out of your sight!!!
If they must go to the lab, have an agreement in writing about
returning them. Don't trust this to luck, as you may be again
be victimized!!
Has anyone heard of the brand Zimmer from
Warsaw, Indiana? They made knee prostheses recently. We need
to know if there is any Dow Corning Silicone in these devices?

Is anyone aware of external prostheses made of all

IMPORTANT:
I continue to hear from women who run to
the first doctor they can find to have their implants removed.
Many women are completely unaware of the proper procedure for
implant removal. Many of us have had our implants removed improperly,
and like me, suffered quite disastrous consequences because of
this probable malpractice. Please inform (and warn) women that
you are aware have implants and are considering removal (or may
consider removal in the future) of the proper procedure for complete
capsulectomy.
The procedure is to cut completely around the scar
capsule (the scar that forms around the implant to protect the
body from the foreign object and from the invasion of silicone
bleed or slough off (silicone from the shell) and to remove the
implant and scar capsule en bloc (which means unopened, so that
nothing is spilled into the chest cavity and the implants are
not ruptured or damaged in any way). THERE
IS NO OTHER SAFE WAY TO REMOVE SALINE-FILLED
SILICONE OR SILICONE GEL IMPLANTS!!
Any doctor who tells you that this is not necessary should not
be operating on you!!
Find a surgeon who believes that implants are dangerous and make
sure she/he knows and has done MANY, MANY of these procedures!!
You are entrusting your health today and your future health
to this surgeon. Accept only the best!! Contact your support
group or contact us for information on support groups in your
area or for qualified surgeons. To accept less than the best
may jeopardize your entire future. It almost killed me!! Please
don't make the same mistakes I did!! The road back has been
pure hell!!
