Thanks to all who attended the Denver mini-conference. They thought
it was the best one we have ever had. We appreciate Drs. Hoffman,
Ostermeyer, and Puszkin and also Rick Laminack for making it possible.
At one time, I thought perhaps the need for this type of conference
was over, but I see this is not the case. If you feel they should
continue, please make the effort to attend. This is the only way
we can keep doing them.
Many women feel left out and find they have no place to tell their
story. If you would like to have your story told, send it to us
(two typed, double-spaced or neatly written pages) and we will
try to print it. Everyone's story is different, so yours may touch
someone that another woman's story may not.
Has Aetna turned you down for explantation? Barbara Stock has

'volunteered' to do so). If Aetna refused to pay for your explant

LEGAL INFORMATION: If you missed our mini-conference in
Denver, you missed some great information given by Rick Laminack.
To give you a few highlights, he discussed the settlement proposal
a little, but the important point was that Option B is sh__!.
It is set up so that virtually no-one can collect from it. I am
aware that some of you have been encouraged to go into Option
B by your attorneys, but, as I have stated from the beginning,
it is something that FEW women will ever benefit from. It is a
trap for the ones who just feel that the money from the settlement
is too little. If you look at the $$ signs and not the fine print,
you will be victimized again by going for this option. Please,
please, please, read the fine print. You must basically be bed-ridden
with lupus or scleroderma or some other serious illness and you
must undergo an exam by the manufacturer's doctors who must approve
your disease category. That is a trap!! Please be careful. If
you can't settle for Option A, check on opting-out. If that is
not an option (many attorneys will not accept your cases or follow
through with you and many women may have things in their background
that keep them from taking this option), then revisit the idea
of settling for Option A. I know there is no justice for any of
us in this situation but it is better than trying Option B and
being forced back into Option A and taking a 25% cut in what you
would have gotten in the first place. There may never be any justice
for us in this lifetime but I always try to think that these manufacturers
will get theirs one day, if not in this lifetime, well.....
Dow Bankruptcy: Work is being done to assure that women and other
persons afflicted by Dow silicone implantable devices (including
Norplant, bone joint replacements, chin and cheek implants, penile
and testicular implants, and other forms of silicone including
clips, intestinal replacement parts, etc.) will have an acceptable
(?!!?) settlement. Rick Laminack is one of the attorneys on that
committee and he gave us some information on what is being done
to assure that we get the most $$ possible to pay our claims.
One part of this is gaining control of from 50% to most of Dow
Corning stock. According to Rick, we will get at least 50% or
more depending on the outcome of a number of cases around the
country. All of this takes time, so get those forms in. If you
have ever had a tubal ligation, gall bladder surgery, or other
surgery where they may have used silicone clips, check it out
to see if they were silicone. If they were, the odds are that
they were made by Dow Corning, especially the older ones. Newer
ones may have been manufactured by Baxter or other companies.
Mentor: Special consideration may be made for Mentor claimants in the Dow Bankruptcy because of the information they provided to the MDL committee. We will not know about this for some time but it may work to our benefit in the long run. This information will be available when the bankruptcy is settled.
We won one against Baxter in Boston. We lost one against 3-M in
Chicago.
The Charlotte Mahlum appeal (the big win against Dow Chemical)
will be heard in the Nevada Supreme Court in December. The only
remaining step after this (when our side wins) is for Dow Chemical
to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Stay tuned for more.
IDENTIFYING IMPLANTS: If you have implants in your possession
and are unable to prove who manufactured them, there are some
places you can call. I have three current sources (Dr. Pierre
Blais is over-loaded and cannot accept any more implants to identify).

quotes on time necessary and expenses to identify implants (preferably
in writing so you are certain of the cost and time). If you wait
until December, you will probably not be able to have you implants
identified in time for the revised settlement date of December
16. January 15 is the date for Dow Corning. In both cases, they
must receive the information by this date, not have it postmarked.
Don't miss out because you have failed to be proactive and failed
to find out what type of implants you have.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: United Kingdom scientists have linked Crohn's disease to a 'superbug' in cow's milk which is believed to be picked up by cattle from rabbit manure. Mycobacterium paratuberculosis, the micro-organism that causes Crohn's disease, is becoming more common in children and appears to survive the pasteurization process of milk. This bacterium has also been found in some drinking water in the U.K. Researchers believe that two-thirds of the cases of Crohn's disease are due to this organism and the remaining one-third are genetic in origin. This mycobacterium has been found in 6% of retail pasteurized milk samples from Southern England and Wales. Regular TB strains are killed by normal pasteurization. The temperature used in pasteurization is 71.6 degrees Centigrade, (roughly 166% F) and only needs to be a few degrees higher to kill this mycobacterium. (Robinsin Dairy in Denver pasteurizes at 170% F). Several new antibiotics, synthetic versions of streptomycin, have been shown to be effective in treating this disease once it is established in the body. There is a 15 month incubation period and it can exist in the body for years before problems develop. The related disease in cattle has helped with the discovery of bacterium in the milk supply.
Toronto: Photodynamic therapy is now being utilized for Rheumatoid
Arthritis. A light-activated drug is injected into the body of
patients with this disease. After 1 1/2 hour, the patient's hands
are placed inside a box that emits a long-wave red light (a longer
wave than ultra-violet, and less toxic). The light penetrates
the skin all the way through to the joints. The hands remain in
the box from 10 to 30 minutes. When the light reaches the proliferating
(abnormal growth) cells, it activates the drug. The drug then
works with oxygen to release toxins called superoxide radicals
causing the cells to die. Superoxide radicals are what destroys
normal body tissue in all of us (hence we take anti-oxidants to
combat this cell death) but in this case it is utilized to kill
abnormal cells.
Even though the injected chemical travels throughout the body, only the cells activated by the light will die. It selectively chooses only abnormal cells that are illuminated by the light. Mild burning or redness is usually all the patient feels locally. The drug then is excreted from the body within 24 to 48 hours.
This procedure has not been tested on feet or hips or any other
part of the body, but was 70% effective in a study done with mice.
Larger joints would probably have to be accessed by utilizing
a needle with a fiberoptic red light. There is hope that the treatment
will last months or years, and, if testing continues to prove
successful without other side effects, it should be on the market
within five years. It could be a successful treatment for several
other inflammatory diseases but not for osteoarthritis because
it does not normally have proliferating cells.
Do you think you should go to a hospital to get well? Think again!!
Some of the most deadly bacteria and fungi are found in abundance
in most hospitals. Much higher rates of aspergillosis, a potentially
deadly fungus, were recently found in European hospitals. 4% of
all patients who die in European hospitals will die of aspergillus
infection. An additional 2% will die of candidiasis, which is
also on the rise. Immuno-compromised patients are most susceptible.
Fungal infections are not easily diagnosable and also are not
easily treatable. Amphotericin B is usually not effective in aspergillosis
and is very toxic. Treatment shifted to azole (such as fluconazole)
in 1990, but now fungi resistant to these drugs are showing up.
A particularly drug-resistant form of Candida is prevalent in
U.S. hospitals and has been identified as the source of many infections
in ICU's (Intensive Care Units). Removing potted plants and carpets
in hospitals may well reduce the amount of aspergillus (and presumably
other fungi). A number of pharmaceutical companies are working
on developing new antifungal agents. Good nutrition (to keep the
immune system strong) following a yeast-free diet and avoidance
of hospitals seems like the best way to help prevent fungal problems.
Germs are becoming more and more resistant to antibiotics. More
and more dermatologists are finding that bacterial infections
are not responding to antibiotic treatment. Prevention may be
the best bet. Loofah cosmetic sponges have been found contaminated
with pseudomonas folliculitis, previously linked basically to
whirlpools. Toothbrushes are often laden with bacteria. Nailbrushes
often are guilty of harboring these tiny organisms. Personal sponges
(including those lacy ones used with bath foams), hair, tooth
and, nail brushes and loofahs can be periodically run through
the dishwasher where high heat and detergent almost always kill
bacteria. Don't skip the drying cycle (for dishes and personal
care items) as this is what kills most bacteria.
Persistent treatment of such things as acne with antibiotics has
resulted in a drug-resistant strain of staphylococcus. The highest
number of drug-resistant bacteria and fungi are coming from treatment
of HIV infected individuals and in individuals with infectious
diseases. There is a 58% increase in infectious diseases in people
younger than 65 and an increase of 25% in deaths from those infections.
In the age group 25-44, there is a six-fold increase in deaths
from infections.
In the U.S. there is a reduced immunity to tetanus, particularly
in the young (ages 10-16) and the elderly. Tetanus boosters should
be given every ten years. Too many doctors have become lax because
of the decreased incidents of tetanus. Beware of DPT boosters
if you have auto-immune problems, as the DP part of this can aggravate
them.
More and more drug-related diseases are being discovered. Temporary
hair loss has been linked to a number of drugs and permanent hair
loss with some therapies. Hair color changes have been reported
with the use of tamoxifen. Lithium has been found to cause several
disorders.
Amantadine and Rimantadine prescription drugs (anti-viral), given
within the first 48 hours of flu symptoms, can kill the virus.
After 48 hours, it is too late for these drugs to work effectively.
LABS: Don't forget to periodically rerun your lab tests
to check on your healing progress. Mine have changed a great deal
and it shows that I need a new focus in my healing efforts. Where
once my immune system had parts elevated and parts suppressed,
now my immune system is all suppressed. It is preferable to use
the same lab for any repeat tests, if at all possible. Mine are
done at Immunosciences Lab in California, (800) 950-4686. It is
difficult to compare tests when the values are different. Many
labs use different values on testing.
ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE: Vitamin D synthesis (from the sun)
is not reduced by the use of sunscreens and sunblocks.
To clean hard water and rust stains from bathtubs, sinks and tiles,
make a paste from 2 tablespoons cream of tartar and 1 tablespoon
hydrogen peroxide, apply to stain and let sit one hour. Rinse.
If any stain remains, reapply and let sit one hour. Rinse again.
Don't try this on fabric!!
Poison ivy or poison oak dermatitis could be reduced or obliterated
by using a topical application of quaterium-18 bentonite lotion
in individuals sensitive to poison ivy-type plants.
Sambucol (black elderberry) is utilized to treat colds, coughs,
flu, etc. It has been know to reduce flu symptoms from 6 days
to 2 days. Black elderberry is available at many health food stores.
Questions & answers: Q. Have you heard from anyone
who has received a card stating that their claim has been received
by the Dow Corning Bankruptcy? A. No, I have had several inquiries
because the information stated that a card would be sent within
6-8 weeks. I suspect that they have received an onslaught of claims
and are running behind. Be sure you send any claim by certified
mail with a return receipt.
PERSONAL COMMUNICATION: HONESTY: Under-rated and overlooked, I find that being honest with the women I speak with is the best policy. I have heard group leaders say that they would never tell their members the whole truth because the women could not take it. HOGWASH!! They are not protecting the women, they are protecting themselves from any negative feelings from the women. We are all adults and do not need protection from reality. We need to know the truth so that we can act on the basis of reality, not fiction. If you are one of the group leaders that is not telling your members the whole truth, perhaps you should re-examine your motives. Everyone deserves the real truth, not a white-wash. We cannot make real plans without it.
I am still hearing about groups that do not tell their members about conferences and meetings in their area. These games hurt all of us, so please do not stoop to these measures to try to keep your power at the expense of the women who could benefit from these important events.
IMPORTANT: Children Afflicted by Toxic Substances (CATS)
needs your information for their data base. If you have children
born after implantation, please join CATS and help with their
research. We are often unable to reach the general public with
the women's issues, but we all know how the public reacts when
children (and animals) are mistreated. This is the vehicle by
which we will probably finally reach the media and the public.
Please help. See the information at the end of the newsletter
for how to join. CATS desperately needs your data. Our whole movement
needs to have this information researched. If you have always
felt that there was nothing you could do to help this movement,
here is something you can do. If you have children who were born
after breast implants, please respond to this call for help.
POWER: I am always shocked to see the number of silicone
survivors (victims) who have given away their power. What do I
mean by this? Very simply, they have given away the control of
their lives to others, especially as far as their health is concerned.
They are not working to educate themselves about their condition
and they are listening to doctors who tell them they must take
this drug or that drug without researching the side effects, the
effects that it has with other medications, and the overall toxicity
on our already toxic bodies. By failing to take control of our
health and our lives, we give away the very power we need to heal
our minds and bodies.
How can we get better if we don't listen to doctors, you ask?
Listen to your body!!! Get in touch with what your body needs!
Massages and acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic, Naturopathic
and Homeopathic Medicine, all these disciplines work with you
to help you have control of your health. Some Holistic MD's also
work with you to help you heal. Medical diagnoses are incorrect
40% of the time. 300,000 people a year die from reactions to medications,
wrong prescriptions or dosages, or by mixing prescription drugs.
Most allopathic medicine practitioners want to fix you, won't
listen to you when you try to tell them anything, and they just
want to give you a pill and send you away. There are exceptions,
of course, but you know what I am talking about. Every prescription
drug, every over- the-counter drug and every injection is a toxin.
What you put into your body can make you sick!!! Be aware of everything
you ingest and know side effects, dosages, and inter-drug reactions.
Better yet, avoid most drugs and seek better nutrition and natural
healing to detox your body and clean up your system. If you truly
want to get better, you need to take stock of your situation and
assess who truly has the power over your health. When you realize
how much power for your healing you have given away, you may then
work to find ways to recover this power and find your true path
to healing.
People often ask me how I was able to regain my health. This is
how I did it! I took the power to control my life away from the
doctors who made me ill. I read, I listened, I tried new things
and I found what worked for me. I didn't take all the advice I
was offered because it didn't feel right for me. I MADE THE CHOICES
!!! Attitude is everything!! If you believe you will get better
and you take control (take back your power), you will find that
you do get better. I cannot emphasize enough how important it
is to be in charge of your health. It is the only way I
have seen women with our illnesses recover.

Why would I encourage you to try these products? I have had a
number of physical problems, not just from my two consecutive
breast implants but from several auto accidents as well. I had
arthroscopic jaw surgery in 1989 as well as surgery to fuse a
disc in my neck (1989). I had back surgery in 1985 (laminectomy)
for a long-standing back problem that had become unbearable. I
still have problems with my low back at times,, although it is
never as bad as it was back then. I have used magnetic products
for both my jaw and my low back with wonderful results. One night
I was in a great deal of discomfort (excruciating) with my jaw
and I just knew that I would be heading back to the physical therapist
for two months of (painful) therapy (this had happened twice before)
when a friend asked me to try placing one of these wonderful products
on each side of my jaw (I taped them, but could have used a head
band). By morning, I had no remaining discomfort. I was amazed,
since I had not believed that these products would work for me.
The second experience happened after that. I had attended several
days worth of meetings and my back was very bad (I had trouble
sitting and sensations were traveling all the way down into my
legs). I placed one of the products over the area where the discomfort
was coming from and within half an hour, it was gone. When I removed
the product four hours later, within half an hour the problem
returned. While there is nothing that may cure or heal
many of our aches and discomforts (however severe they may be),
any product that can offer relief and is completely safe, non-toxic,
and non-invasive scores a gold star with me. I refuse to take
pain pills and anti-inflammatory drugs because of their toxic
side effects. These products relieve my symptoms without all of
these problems. I LOVE THEM! I would not mention
or recommend them if I didn't believe in them for myself and use
them! I would be remiss in my obligations if I did not tell you
how great they are.
