EXPLANTATION ALERT!!!!

There is only one safe procedure for removal of breast implants, whether silicone gel, double lumen, or saline-filled silicone implants. These implants must always be removed utilizing the en bloc technique. This techniques consists of cutting around the entire scar capsule and removing the scar capsule and implant prior to opening the capsule. This eliminates the risk of dumping more toxic material, whether silicone gel or bacteria/fungi filled saline solution.

MOST PLASTIC SURGEONS DO NOT PROPERLY REMOVE BREAST IMPLANTS!!!

Even though many of them remove the scar tissue, possibly 95% of plastic and cosmetic surgeons open the scar capsule inside the patient's body and then suction out the contents, thereafter cutting out the scar tissue. This allows for massive contamination of the chest area with toxins and micro-organisms. Many women, including myself, would be completely healthy today if this procedure had been done properly.

Many plastic surgeons will still tell patients that implants are not harmful and do not need to be removed properly. Many are still leaving part or all of the scar tissue inside the patient's chest. I hear reports daily about this type of surgical procedures. Many women require additional surgery (or surgeries) to remove the remaining material, thereby exposing them to the danger of repeat surgical procedures.

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, NO MATTER WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET!!! FIND A WAY TO GET TO THE RIGHT PLASTIC SURGEON!!

REPLACEMENT WITH NEW IMPLANTS IS CONTRAINDICATED IF YOU HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS OR HEALTH PROBLEMS!! Many surgeons are attempting (and succeeding) in convincing patients that they will look terrible, that they will be totally depressed, that they will just not be able to handle the results of surgery if they do not have replacement implants. This is unethical and immoral. If your plastic surgeon is using these tactics, I recommend you find another surgeon who will not be manipulative and will be truthful and ethical. If you have any symptoms from your implants, replacement will undoubtedly increase those symptoms. Saline implants (or soy bean oil--soya implants) are not safe. They are in a silicone envelope and many women with these implants are very ill. Many have died.

A GOOD, REPUTABLE, CARING PLASTIC SURGEON WILL DO THEIR BEST TO MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD. If you are being told that you will look terrible, please call a support group for a conscientious plastic surgeon's number and address. Women often look better after their surgeries than they did before they had implants. A mastopexy can do wonders if you have sagging breasts. Don't believe a doctor if they are negative and trying to convince you that you must have more implants. Remember, they make money on every implant they sell you and also on the surgery to put it in.

UNFORTUNATELY, YOU MAY HAVE TO TRAVEL TO FIND A GREAT PLASTIC SURGEON!!! We have an excellent one in Denver. There is one in Cleveland. There is one in Florida. There are a few here and there. We do our best to put you in contact with support groups in your area that may know which plastic surgeons are the best and closest.

THE PLASTIC SURGEON WHO PUT YOUR IMPLANTS IN IS PROBABLY NOT THE BEST ONE TO REMOVE THEM!! Many times, they are just not skilled in the proper removal technique. Even if they offer to do the surgery for very few $$, it is often unwise to have them removed by the same doctor who implanted you. Loyalty often needs to be put aside in order to have the very best procedure to protect your health and give you good aesthetic results.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY A FORTUNE TO HAVE IMPLANTS REMOVED!! Our wonderful Denver plastic surgeon (she is also a micro-surgeon) charges about $4200 including hospital, anesthesiologist and her services. A mastopexy is an additional $2000. Some surgeons are charging upwards of $10,000. Insurance will often cover the costs if you know how to approach them.

DON'T CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY DIRECTLY TO ASK IF THEY WILL COVER THE COST OF EXPLANTATION!! Two doctors must write letters stating that it is a medical necessity that these implants be removed because of (list symptoms and abnormal test results). Have the plastic surgeon forward these letters to the insurance company. If they refuse to pay, appeal the decision. If you have exhausted the appeals procedure, file a complaint to the state insurance commissioner. If that fails, hire an attorney to write them a letter threatening to sue them for failure to cover this necessary procedure. Several lawsuits have succeeded in forcing insurance companies to pay, so precedent has been set.

MEDICAID AND MEDICARE OFTEN COVER THE COSTS OF IMPLANT REMOVAL!! If you have applied or are on Social Security Disability of SSI, you may be able to have the costs of explantation covered by Medicaid or Medicare.
